Several and Sundry
Apr. 1st, 2004 04:02 amFirst, happy birthday to
onyxdubh! Make you dinner soon?
Second, I refer you Tolkien geeks to
camwyn, who has brought us the Quenta Silmarillion in 350 words or less.
Other News Behind the Cut
Third, Diana's decided to encourage several deity-based subgroups of Hrafnar for several and sundry reasons. The first of these, an Odin-based one, met last night and I have good hopes for it.
Fourth, on the way home from same,
purplevenus and I successfully mind-whammied a cop into giving us a warning. Go team! 8-)
Fifthly, I actually wrote fiction yesterday. Fucking-A. My heroine and her trusty ship's computer talk about how computers think, how fast they think, does the dear bucket of bolts have a soul (the heroine is atheist), and so on. I see where it would fit in the plot, now need to decide if it goes there. I'm ambivalent about the context, which is a whirlwind tour of AI representations and concepts as presented by distinctly 20th century science fiction: several novels and a movie. That's anachronistic, and I don't think I like it, but having a novel cover flicker between several things in a hologram's hands was a very handy technique. It'll probably need to be rewritten if I use it at all. Still, I did a thing, hallelujah and amen.
Got an engagement with the nice Umbanda folks tomorrow. I'm bringing a three-layer red velvet cake with daaaark chocolate frosting. Yeah, someone else is bringing cake too, so?
In accordance with the day, the Troth's members' list has been redecorated again. Hopefully enough people will remember last year that I won't get so many unsubscription requests! I also, deliberately, wasn't as good about making the switchover to this year's pirate ship as I was to last year's Victorian tea party, so more people will hopefully get the joke, and
walkyrja,
sigurdsdottir, et al won't smite too hard at the pirate names I made up for them. 8-) (I dealt myself no worse a hand, renaming myself "Brass-Knobbed Wood" in clear reference to a seidhkona's staff, so there).
Anyway, out-of-work geeks might want to take a look at this new job opening from Google, too.
All right, one shot of rum to keep on the re-acclamation project (had a bad run-in in January) and it's to bed with me. Night, y'all!
