Mail delivery was wedged last night, so nobody was getting any mail. When I unwedged it, I noticed things were going at a speed only paralleled by Fangorn trying to declaim in Old Entish while simultaneously skipping rope up Mount Taniquetil to chat up his old buddy Manwë.

As you all know, the spammers are getting busier over the past couple weeks, and that's put an extra load on the server [boo!]. I wasn't dedicating enough of the server to e-mail processing, filtering, and delivering, which means mails were going through the spam filter slower than new mails were arriving on the server, and that makes bad juju and slow mail. This has been dealt with and the mail is flitting along much faster now, although there's still a 750-message backlog.

Wow, hey, it's kinda stupid to only run 2 instances of your mail filtering suite (amavisd-new + SpamAssassin) when you're barraged with spammers, thus meaning you can only process two e-mails at once. How stupid is that? So,
increased number of amavis instances from 2 to 10, meaning that lorien can now run 100 e-mails off its queue in five minutes instead of, oh, 15-20 -- processing was happening slower than mails were arriving.
