In the Bay Area?

Yeah, that was an earthquake. 3.9, 3 miles SE of Berkeley (or 3 SW of Orinda, as you like).

Per a friend, E's DSL got knocked out by it too. But you're on. Are you cabled?

You know where the worst place to be in an earthquake is? NOT THERE.

Feh.

I like cable modem, have since my first taste of it two houses ago in North Berkeley. It's more dependable than DSL as a rule, and hey, no SBC.

Plus, it's cheaper, for more bandwidth. Go figure.

Wasn't it just? And pretty much right under our building. I don't know what it was like on the first floor, but on this corner of the third floor, it was pretty exciting.

And, as you can see, I got my DSL back. Guess it was just a glitch. Apparently the dial-up for our ISP was working just fine.

Hey, how are you enjoying the building? I saw you that one day, when I was sick as a dog, and not particularly social, but haven't seen anything but your car since then.

Hey, I like the building just fine -- the managment seems very hands-on and proactive, although this is probably in part because they're trying to sell the place, so I'm not sure how typical that is. My only regret? That they lock the laundry room at 9!

I'm down in 1F, y'know -- if the car's here, I'm here, so feel free to give a call or drop by...

They were hands on long before the notice about the potential sale came around. It's just the way that the owners and managers do business. I kinda like it.

I don't like that they lock the laundry room either. I know it came from the owners, and might have something to do with some thefts that happened in one of their other buildings.

I'm up here in 3C -- ditto goes for the car thing. It's the silver Echo in the last space just in front of the gate/door/entrance.

I didn't feel at all, even though I was awake then. Well, I say awake, when really I'm vertical and moving around, but not really conscious. I guess I'm too far north to have felt the tremblies, but oddly enough I woke up from a catnap yesterday and told [livejournal.com profile] quirkwidget that I wondered if we were going to have an earthquake. Now if only such hunches were reliable and marketable. *grin*

I was wandering around Greyhaven, so even more on top of the thing than I would have been at home. There was a *whomp*, a rattle, and nothing much besides that. We communally pegged it as a three-ish and I went back to turning an old Idunna into a shiny new PDF, suitable for downloads or reprinting.

'twas a 3.9, lass. Nothing to fret over, like someone dropping a heavy object in the next room (but not on a foot).

All's well. Felt like a car whomped into the house, only it hadn't. 'twas only a 3.9, and we scoff in the face of anything less than 5! Scoff, I say!

So that WAS a quake. I was walking down the jetway of Gate 25 at Oakland Airport at the time, the jetway jiggled a bit, and I thought, "Great, some jackass is fucking about with the controls again."

Coolness... There was a wee little aftershock about an hour later, too.

Heh - Tennessee may have thunderstorms and whatnot, but we get earthquakes... *gloat*

:)

*grin* I still miss thunderstorms, though.

In a related item, I was talking to my credit card company, telling them about my new digs and when they'd get their money. I made the phone person break script (I always like doing that -- in the pleasant way, natch). The call center was in Kansas, and she was talking about how they'd been rained on rather a lot recently.

"Ma'am," I replied sympathetically, "I'm from Ohio so I know from thunderstorms, but now I live in California. If the hills aren't falling on us because there's an earthquake, it's because there's a mudslide, and if it's neither of those, someone probably set it on fire anyway."

Apparently, that made me Quotable. ;)

Aie! A casualty!

Found this morning: One of Adric's sillier-looking action figures (which I think is supposed to be Marvel Comic's version of Odin, though no eyepatch or eye injury is in evidence)lying on the ground below the mantel. Mostly undamaged but his staff has snapped off just above the hand, so now he is holding a little baton.

Nothing else damaged, though.

Listen, y'all can have all the earthquakes down there that you like, but please do me a favor and keep them down there.

I...don't...like...earthquakes. I prefer, if at all, to hear about them on the news, rather than feel them under my feet. Furthermore, based on my experience with them, earthquakes don't like me either.

Glad to hear everyone's all right and that casualties were limited to only a plastic Odin. (But shouldn't he've been sitting on the dashboard of a car?) ;)

well *I* certainly think so, but it isn't my doll.

I have, in fact, heard the "Odin" version of "Plastic Jesus," although I have managed to repress the actual lyrics thereof.

Well, there was an awful lot of mead...

Dubh?

You're on The Pacific Rim. We get earthquakes, that's what we do.

Of course, even the Rust Belt isn't safe... when I was in grade school we had a 5.0 in frigging Cleveland fer cripes sake, and a 3.2 a couple years later.
