Folks, I don't know how we've all missed this piece of news for an entire week, but here 'tis, announced back on 22 August by New Line:

On 5-11 December, 100-150 theaters across the country will be showing, for the first time ever in theaters, the EXTENDED version of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

On 12-15 December, those prints will be replaced with, again for the first time on big screens, the EXTENDED version of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Is that not nifty? Damn straight that's nifty!

But wait!

There's more!

On 16 December, the day before the official release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, for ONE TIME ONLY, participating theaters will show BOTH
Extended Edition prints... and an exclusive 11PM screening of The Return of the King -- a full hour before those slobs outside in line get to watch Gandalf smite himself some Nazgûl. A full hour before the rest of 'em get to see Aragorn heft Andúril! What's more, it'll be with a die-hard audience primed for it by having just seen the other two in their fully intended glory!

Now, this intrepid correspondent has no information -- yet! -- on Bay Area screenings, but when I do you'll hear about it here! Pre-sales are due to begin later this month, you'll hear about that, too.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's a helluva time to be a fangrrl.

Now if you'll excuse me, there's drool all over my keyboard...

When you stop to think about this the run would have to start about 4 or 5pm in the afternoon. This is longer than it would take to frive from the Bay area to Palm Springs.
