Meanwhile, somewhere where geeks were lunching...

$some_guy: "And then you just reconfigure sendmail..."

[livejournal.com profile] lwood: "Sendmail? Ew! Ptui!"

$some_guy: "Sendmail is nice! Sendmail Is Your Friend!"

[livejournal.com profile] lwood: "Sendmail? Sendmail is not my friend. Postfix is my friend! Sendmail is the high school crush with whom I had an acrimonious breakup. I know he exists, I try to forget about him, but like a bad penny, he just keeps turning up."

*pause*

[livejournal.com profile] lwood: "By this logic, QMail is the funny little weirdo mouthbreather who smells like cat pee. Also, his momma dresses him funny."

$some_guy then tries to say something about how sendmail's config file m4 nightmare is Not That Bad, Really, but he's got no traction here.

Postfix and [livejournal.com profile] lwood, BFF.

Hahahahaha! I agree entirely. I'm a Postfix girl too. [livejournal.com profile] ravenblack *loved* qmail; I never understood it. We tolerated each other when we used to share a server, but when we split and he digitally moved out, Postfix five seconds later.

Well, with an MTA conflict like that, you know it couldn't last...

I'll take Qmail over Sendmail any day of the week. I think Qmail is, indeed, a funny-looking weirdo... but he doesn't smell of cat pee, and he does have some hidden talent, like being a great cook. Whereas the guy from high school has really never matured emotionally beyond that point, and is not ready for real adult company.

Still, Postfix FTW.

QMail has its strong suits, sure--but stuff djb has done just rubs me the wrong way.

Having had to wade through and edit sendmail configs before, I could not agree more that just about ANY alternative is an improvement.

Now, exim might be a decent fellow; my only experience with it has been to remove it in favor of postfix...
