Hrafn Sweater: Bleargh!

Predictably, I have run out of the blue yarn I'm using for the body of my sweater shortly before I ran out of sweater.

Really, the perversity of the universe tending to a maximum as it does, I really was tempting fate:
  • I found The Best Yarn for My Sweater Ever!

  • Stash's computer said it had nine skeins in Midnight Blue, though we could only find eight.

  • The pattern called for ten skeins of Some Other Yarn. I knew then I should have hunted down whatever yarn Elspeth Lavold had been on about and extrapolate to mine.

  • ...especially after my my handy estimator thingy said "yeah, given that gauge and your bust? INSUFFICIENT YARN ERROR."

  • Oh, and the manufacturer apparently only ships anything twice a year.

  • Nope, no other local yarn store I called carries this stuff.

  • Nor a lot of online stores. Who knew that 50% superwash/50% merino implied 0.1% unobtanium?

I did eventually find it...now, do I pay $5 for shipping by Priority Mail, which will turn up Wednesdayish and mean I can't steek at Stitch & Bitch on Wednesday, or $20 for Express Mail, which means a Tuesday arrival and mmmmmaybe I can still make it happen?

Well, they'll not be packing it until noon at the earliest in any case. I'm sure in the morning I'll realize that one day's net shipping difference, no matter how much it might make me climb the walls, will not really make the difference in whether or not I'll have it for Pcon.

...hey! Sleep! What a great idea!

Did you call all the southbay places? Yarn Dogs in LG? Purlescence of Sunnyvale? COmmunknity of SJ? Knitting Room of SJ?

Get yarn AND see Paula and I?

(I would call, but you didn't give us the specs)

Also I have a friend in Reno today threatening to go to Jimmy Bean and then drive home to Santa Clara tonight. I bet she accepts bribes.

*cough* Er, no, hadn't thought of it at two this morning, actually, just places I knew I could get to easily on the way to/from work.

If you want to try, it's Nashua Handknits Creative Focus Superwash (http://www.nashuaknits.com/yarns/yarn_cfsuperwash.html)--please note that CF Superwash (which is in a worsted weight) comes in football/egg-shaped skeins, as pictured, and is what I'm using, as opposed to their CF Worsted (http://www.nashuaknits.com/yarns/yarn_cfworsted.html), which comes in tomatoes and is summat more common.

It's Super Bowl Sunday, and Lorrie wants a football. 8-)

The color I need is #31, Midnight Blue.

It looks like all these places are open from noon to five today, except Purlescence, which is open at 11 for a knitting party, and The Knitting Room, who don't do Sundays. I'll start calling, but my problem is that I won't have a car at my disposal until three-thirty, which is starting to cut it close with any traffic at all. I have to be at Greyhaven (and could theoretically postpone that a bit), but...

Well, the first thing to try is a phone in just over an hour. That's free. 8-)

I hadn't looked at the time of your post, sorry!

if you put into GOOGLE 95125 as the zip, then search YARN for my area... (I also noted there was a second place in Sunnyvale)

I could go buy it for you, and then you could pick it up at your convinence.

Elan can get it as far north as the oakland airport on a weekday, but he car pools so he can't get it further north than that. He drives next week, so he *might* be able to run it somewhere close to the airport at lunch.

My current feeling is that, given that few yarn stores are open Monday, and I've got stuff going on after work on both Tuesday and Wednesday, if I can't get it today I may as well order it online from Oregon--for my $5, it'll arrive by Priority Mail before I could reasonably get it from any shop or gracious third party factor such as yourself. 8-)

In half an hour, I can try calling around for the stuff at the places you cite. If I find it at even one place, I can try to make it in time--either give you big puppy eyes and ask for a Fremont BART pickup (those trains, even on a Sunday, are every 15 minutes, contrast with hourly for Caltrain), or try for a surgical strike once the car's back, which will make me late for my evening engagement, but at least I'll have yarn and Diana will understand.

As a distant third option, assuming the yarn exists, I might be able to use the dual rationales of "but you bought the rest of the damn yarn for this sweater" and "I cannot otherwise have the thing done by Pantheacon" to arguably rouse Diana to pick me up and we head there together. This will only stand a chance if I've called ahead and confirmed the existence of the right yarn in the right color. 8-)
