Now, to distill the shopping list--including the fact that I want to give the Addi Lace needles a whirl...

  • Glue (wtf, lady, what kind of glue?)

  • scissors (good thing I haven't bought that carryon luggage yet)

  • small rectangular mirror (??)

  • Laceweight yarn:
    • 75 yd color A

    • 15 yd color B

    • 15 yd color C

    • 30 yd color D

    • 90 yd color E

  • OMG needles:

    • US #2/3.0mm 24" circ (also, there are three-count-them-THREE metric equivs for US #2. US needle sizing is dumb. Hail metric!

    • US #6/4.0mm 24" circ

    • US #8/5.0mm 24" circ

    • US F/3.75mm crochet hook

Not that I don't have several colors of laceweight knocking around, but no two are the same fiber content. I bought two skeins of by-gods-Icelandic laceweight wool a couple weeks ago, but on reflection, I should save those for a real shawl, and pick up summat else for the in-class mockups.

Ah! Yes, both Lacis of Berkeley and Imagiknit of San Francisco have the needles. If I go all hell-bent-for-leather to Lacis, though, I get there just as they close and must rush--but will be picked up by the Lovely and Talented [livejournal.com profile] erynn999. Contrariwise, if I head to Imagiknit instead, I can take my time without rushing; they close later and it's a lot close to the office.

Oi! [livejournal.com profile] faeryl! You want to raid Imagiknit with me? (Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] marquisdanbear, this time I really am enabling...)

US needle sizing is indeed dumb. why not just go by the metric sizes? You sound so upset that you need to buy some more yarn and needles:)

US needle sizing is indeed dumb. why not just go by the metric sizes?

Because the teachers and/or the program publication people put the US sizes in the program.

That's not the "WTF!?" moment.

The "WTF!?" moment comes when, as now, I realise that of the two ladies I'm seeing next weekend, one's Norwegian-born (thus, metric-default) and the other a mathematician who, while US-born, translates Icelandic and Faroese knittin' patterns (two good reasons that metric is a personal default).

I suspect it was for the benefit of the metric-phobic US program participants. BAH!

You're right, of course.

The only solution is retail yarn therapy...

Hmm... I don't see bacon, mead, or axes on your list. Admittedly, I'm sure you can have fun using needles to sack the local monastery.

Actually, that sounds fun... "Oi! Bishop! Give me the gold, or I'll use your innards to knit a Faroese shawl!"

Awesome. :)

I can get bacon, mead, and axes there--and fully intend to do so!

...well, okay, axes are bulky to pack up. I'll have to leave them with [livejournal.com profile] erynn999. The rest, though...
