Holy gods. All the things I shouldn't be eating right now in one handy package.

Honestly. And it's boutique chocolate, no less. I would have expected a heart attack special from the Hershey's corporation.

Of course, five years ago I was standing around watching the Fatkins craze and going, "You're all going to drop dead of massive coronary embolisms. Vegies are your friends, pork fat is not!" And... I'm right!

Which is satisfying and not, all at the same time.

(Okay, I'd still try a bite of bacon chocolate. But I wouldn't pay for it.)

And... I'm right!

My current Great Dietary Theory is that one's plate should be varied and colorful, although the colors ought not come from dye vats, but rather be indicative of yummy things that are also colourful, e.g. Vitamin A's favorite precursor, beta carotene. As a corollary, avoid white food and its empty simple carbs.

After that, keep the fats unsaturated and prefer local, organic, and fresh over not.

(Okay, I'd still try a bite of bacon chocolate. But I wouldn't pay for it.)

Might go in on one with a couple others in the name of later bragging rights. I mean, I did it for pickled jellyfish, and I want to try fugu, so the slippery slope to bacon chocolate is already well=greased.

It's far too simple: Eat like a sane mammal. Y'know, I have cutting teeth and grinding teeth, so while I enjoy vegan food because I like the way it tastes (and the way I feel eating it after a winter of dead, preserved, meat-heavy meals), I know I'm supposed to have animal food, too.

I feel the same way about extreme eating (XTREEEEEEEM EATING!) the way I do about energy drinks: This way lies coronary thrombosis, idiots. I watched so many people get all Fatkins happy, and then when they didn't read the damn fine print that says it's a kick-start for body building, get scary unhealthy. I'm not the least bit surprised a handful of people are suddenly diabetic, either. What IS IT about pagan fringe cultures and the food fetish?

Anyway, forgive me -- this is one of my favorite sermons (says the woman who just stocked up on a green tea supplement so she doesn't rust).

In other news, one of my co-workers makes the most astonishing vegan red velvet cupcakes in the whole of known creation. I have to get her recipe. I'd never believe it doesn't contain animal fat.

And they are astonishing. These mothers contain no eggs, no milk and no butter, and they're moist and dense and sweet and the texture is perfect. Also perfect is the texture of the "buttercream," whose base ingredient is apparently soy cream cheese. I'm amazed.

Like I said above--would try, would not necessarily buy.

Besides, it might melt in transit, and melty chocolate is an ew.

... May I borrow it, if you do?

Well, no. 'cause see...I don't have lot of sense. So it doesn't take alot of discretionary income to best it out. :-)

Every once in a while I'll thumb through a copy of the Robb Report and amuse myself contemplating how I'd blow my money (other than on cocaine, of course) if I suddenly found myself with more money than taste.

I can almost see that working, if it was really good bacon and not too sugary.

There's this molecular gastronomy type place in London that was doing bacon icecream at one point. And crab icecream. The head chef also found a way of infusing chocolate with pipe-tobacco, which sounds worth a try.

after I got my very awesome nearly professional ice cream maker, I made a list of all the ice creams I wanted to make. One of them is a maple and bacon ice cream. So far, I don't have too many guinea pigs, however.

But still, I think it would be tasty!

If you were intending to horrify, you've reached the wrong connection.

My husband, in a fit of ... I'm not quite sure what seized his crazed imagination, actually ... made my eldest a ahocolate bacon cake last year for his birthday.

We all actually liked it, much to our horrified amazement.

A friend later introduced us to bacon sundaes -- ice cream, crumbled bacon, maple syrup -- and were also pleased thereby. (This is a much more often repeatable offense than the cake.)
