0930 PDT, 08 May 2007: Web servers' static content is being restored, site by site, as I verify each one. Isn't it awfully nice to have a backup? Also, the default page for any website I hadn't turned back on yet was going to conjure.com, and while I like
rowanf a whole pile, the folks turning up for Hot Jedi Porn (or whatever) just wouldn't get it.
2130 PDT, 07 May 2007: Webmail is back! However, many personal settings did not survive; they were on the failing drive in a section I didn't copy, and further copying will avail me naught (see below). Mail is safe, but folders may have to be re-subscribed, filters re-made, and so on.
Buuut... it looks like the failing hard drive didn't quite pull through, taking particular care to crap all over the biggest, busiest sites, with other files blasted in a funfun shotgun pattern. Don't Panic!--I had planned ahead for this with a handy offsite backup, from which I will be restoring tonight. E-Mail doesn't seem to have been affected, only web pages. Once that is done, the websites will be brought back up over the course of the week--the simple, static content will come up quite quickly, but the features may take longer to implement. There's a lot of changes underneath lorien's new hood, and it simply doesn't do to be hasty.
To-Do List:
