Okay, mail is now being properly queued up on the backup server again; anything that actually does try to come in will now do the right thing and go to the other guy, waiting for you all to come back.

Lorien got moved to its real IP address--I had been keeping it behind the home firewall/router doohickey until I judged it ready for the real network.

BIND (Domain Name Service) has been started thanks to [livejournal.com profile] countgeiger.

Postfix configuration--i.e., incoming e-mail--appears to work properly.

Networking, however, isn't: the new server on its new IP address isn't talking to anything not on its local network. This is something [livejournal.com profile] countgeiger and I need to discuss later this morning...

Okay! The networking issue is fixed. We got a new router from Comcast as part of all this hoorah, and it had a hardware firewall enabled by default. Until I can find the owner's manual online, and figure out a ruleset for it, I've turned the firewall off.

The box itself has a software firewall, so it's safe. In fact, that's what we've been running with for years.
