Current Server Status:

Overall Status	Explanation
	The current status of my server is Cookie Monster: things are going well, but someone hogged all my bandwidth.

Someone in the Greater Columbus, OH area, using a RoadRunner cable modem is trying to get an archive of a site I host. However, they're being rude about it, ignoring the "please don't do that" sign that has been quietly erected. In response, I shut the web server down for five minutes and am researching bandwidth throttling solutions for my particular setup.

I'll post something that's not about the server soon, promise!

If you're not running Apache 2.x, and you're on 1.3.x, mod_throttle is your friend...

Otherwise mod_bw or mod_bandwidth might be the way to go.

mod_bandwidth for apache2 will do the trick.

However, for a "final solution" iptables (for linux) or ipf/ipfw (for *BSD) is a much more satisfying resolution.

Personally, I'm waiting for mod_cluebat to be written, but then, I'm E-VIL ;-P

Heck just go all iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s [asshole's IP address] -j DENY on their ass.
