...this isn't the long entry about why I thought it was spiritually appropriate to get stabbed with pointy needly bits--that is going to get all locked up, right and tight--but it's kinda related: everything, eventually, relates around to everything else: follow the unravelled thread around long enough, and sure enough it's your sweater with the hole in.

I learned to knit entrelac today! The Notorious DLP has custody of the camera, so you'll have to settle for this scan:

sample of entrelac knitting

I used this pattern.

Yay! Looks great! I've still got my entrelac project in my knitting bag. I'm not allowed to put anything else on the needles until I finish my mom's Yule giftie, so I haven't started it yet, but I can admire yours wistfully.

On the other paw, this does mean that I'm gaining understanding of the underlying theory and can, therefore, share that, 'cos it was stumping both of us a few weeks ago.

Ooo entrelac is fun. I also learned to knit or rather perl "backwards" so I wouldn't have to flip the piece around. That was handy for modular knitting. But it has been many years, I doubt I still remember.

I started learning how to knit left-handed, which would be about the same thing, just to see if I could; I see how it would be useful here. Alternately, for the same speed benefit, you could go along in the round, or in garter stitch...

I'm envious, I haven't yet figured out entrelac and I WANT to!

The page I linked to had the best set of instructions I'd yet seen on the technique -- most of the rest were rather poorly written.
