Yes, when you're trying to make off with humpback whales in your very own Klingon Bird of Prey, transparent aluminum is well-known as the only substance capable of holding back the immense pressure of the water pressing against the side of the tank.

Yet, aside from one small SF firm and their one special commission, this amazing substance in its 20th and 21st century fabrications has not been seen outside the HMS Bounty, now on display at the Federation Air and Space Museum.

Until... now.

And not once do they mention the source of inspiration in that article. Damned hidebound mundanes. We owe too many technological innovations to Trek to not pay homage when we get another one.

OTOH, w00t! Now if they'll just get the voice interface right down...

My Rob's been using a microphone to communicate with other players on the computer - in WOW, I think.
But he's still using the keyboard too.

It's probably just as well that I'm limited to using the keyboard to talk with other Warcrack users. Slows me down just enough to keep me from being banned for excessive grumpiness. *grin*

And you're back on WoW and didn't tell me? Despair!

Yep, there have been voice chat clients around for some time --however, you can't use them yet to talk to the computer, only other people...

Voice interfaces have been improving incrementally for the past five years--one of the several technologies I'm keeping an eye on.

And still--w00t!
